Conditions and useful information about booking Joe Public
Signing a contract with JOE PUBLIC indicates acceptance of the following conditions. These are to safeguard the interests of all parties concerned and ensure that you have the best possible event.
1. We emphasise JOE PUBLIC are a reasonably loud show/party band, suitable for events where it is intended that people get up and dance. In quantifiable terms this is an average sound level of 100 dB at a distance of 10 metres from the stage when using a 3k PA system. This is roughly equivalent to a large mobile disco. We are NOT suitable to provide background music that people can talk over and this should be considered before booking.
2. A large PA and light show does take a reasonable amount of setting up and sound checking. For our minimum set up with small lighting rig this is 1 1/2 hours. For our medium set up we require at least 2 hours and our full set up requires 2 1/2 hours. Please be aware of this and build these times into your plans for the event and for our time of access. You should contact us immediately if you feel that an earlier set up time is required. This is often possible but needs to be checked with the band first. An ‘early set up fee’ will be charged in addition to any prices or quotes that have already been agreed (this fee is typically £160.00).
3. For anything other than a minimal set up we require an area 6’x4’ towards the back of the room for our sound mixer and engineer (where applicable).
4. The performance area/stage should be a minimum of approximately six or seven average walking paces wide by about five paces deep. An absolute minimum of four power points need to be available as close to the performing area as possible.
5. The room allocated as a dressing room should be suitable for up to eight people, ideally the room should be lockable and have a mirror - though this is not absolutely essential. Reasonable access to toilets and washroom is also required.
6. The size of venue affects the amount of sound and lighting equipment that we need to use. Larger venues mean we need more crew and increased set up times, which will be reflected in the price. In addition, venues with difficult access, stairs or elevators add significantly to the workload and will again increase the need for road crew and earlier arrival times. Any access difficulties such as stairs, lifts, narrow corridors, uneven floors or unreasonable distances to the performing area/stage must be made clear at the time of booking so that these factors may be taken into account when fixing a price. If access difficulties are discovered after booking then JOE PUBLIC reserve the right to renegotiate the contract or use a reduced amount of equipment (It should be noted that reducing the amount of equipment will affect the overall quality of the performance).
7. Use of pyrotechnics is subject to proximity of the audience, ceiling height and whether the venue allows their usage. It should also be noted that the band will usually use water based ‘smoke’ to aid the effects created by the lights. Whilst this rarely has any effect on alarm/smoke systems we advise you to inform the venue.
8. We shall be allowed to begin breaking down any equipment not being used to provide sound or light before the end of an event. This shall be done discreetly and at no time will cause disturbance or inconvenience to the guests, but it prevents instruments, microphones and stage monitors from being damaged by members of the audience who get on to the stage.
9. We do not insist but, in view of the length of time that we are at the venue and the amount of physical work involved, we would be most appreciative of the provision of refreshments (tea/coffee/cold drinks and sandwiches are ideal) and efforts to make the band reasonably comfortable (a happy band helps to ensure the best possible performance). A suitable room must be provided to allow the band to wait, change and store personal items.
10. It is the responsibility of the hiring party to ensure that the venue is suitable for a seven-piece band and that JOE PUBLIC are suitable for the event. We call venues shortly before the date to confirm access times and size of room but we cannot visit venues before booking. We try to make it as clear as possible what you get when you book JOE PUBLIC and it is up to you to assess whether we are suitable for your event. Joe Public select carefully chosen songs that through experience appeal to the widest possible audience and ensure that everyone has a fantastic time. The song choices and how they are performed reflects the personality of the band and constitutes ‘their show’ – making them unique and different from other bands. The selection of songs during the performance is entirely at the discretion of the band and is subject to frequent change. Under some special circumstances the band may consider performing certain requests where possible but this is entirely at the band's discretion. Joe Public are happy to play background music between sets if agreed in advance.
11. Cancellations within 1 month of the date requires 50% of the full fee to be paid. Cancellations within 2 weeks of the date require the full fee to be paid.
12. All monies with the exception of deposits should be paid in cash prior to commencing the performance. If you can only pay by cheque then this must be sent in advance leaving sufficient time for the cheque to clear – normally 5 working days. Please advise Joe Public if this is to be the case.
Our Commitment to you.
JOE PUBLIC aim to conduct themselves professionally and will work hard to ensure that your event is enjoyable. We undertake to perform with passion and enthusiasm - endeavouring to exceed your expectations at all times. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you in anticipation of your custom and wish your occasion every success.
Joe Public carry public liability insurance and their equipment is fully PAT tested in line with current legislation.
